The Basics of Consumer Law: Bankruptcy, Debt Collections, and Foreclosure

Jose Vasquez will provide an overview of consumer law topics relating to assistance and representation of CLS clients. The presentation will cover basic consumer issues, including an explanation of the different types of debt, the legal rights available to consumers in dealing with debt, an overview of state and federal exemptions, the debt collection process, including legal action, judgments, and post-judgment matters including wage and bank garnishment and recording of liens. The session will also provide an overview of consumer bankruptcy.
